Tangled Up in Hues: Excellence in Rock Portraiture
Comments |
|Clouds. Mitchell, Joni (Canadian. Born 1943.) Under the watchful eye of David Crosby, Joni Mitchell rocketed to stardom with her debut LP. The self-portrait on the cover of this 1969 follow-up suggests that the rocket messed up her wig and ended in a Bob Ross vision of Saskatoon. The waxen vacancy in her countenance is offset with the golden hues of the Saskatchewan River at sunset, delicately alluding to Mitchell's Canadian citizenry. She holds the floral emblem of the Province of Saskatchewan, Lilium philadelphicum andinum, a medicinal herb to native peoples of the region. The record includes "Chelsea Morning" and "Both Sides Now."
