Tangled Up in Hues: Excellence in Rock Portraiture

|Naturally. Cale, JJ (American. Born 1938.) British singer and guitarist Eric Clapton had already made JJ Cale's "After Midnight" popular with American audiences at the time of this 1971 release, which includes Cale's own rendition of the song. The cover's painting was rendered by Rabon, one of Cale's former classmates. It features a priapic North American raccoon clad in some kind of smoking jacket contemplating a famished beagle. How Rabon was able to get George Hamilton and Shelley Duvall to sit still for so long remains a mystery.
