|Hank Mobley, A Caddy for Daddy
Blue Note's 1960s party records are usually easy to spot. Just look for a groovy car-meets-girl cover photo. This one is no exception: car + girl = great party platter. Hank Mobley was a solid soloist with a warm (though sometimes wavering) tone, but his real gift was as a bandleader and songwriter. Here, Mobley leads an incredible roster of cats (including McCoy Tyner on piano, Lee Morgan on trumpet and Billy Higgins on drums) on a slinky set of bop-goes-soul jazz tunes.
