Based on Federico Tozzi's 1919 novel "With Closed Eyes," an autobiographical story which was an exorcism of the writer's difficult childhood in Siena--the suffering caused him by his overbearing father, an illness affecting his eyes and the unresolved love that bound him to Ghisola, a servant on his father's farm.
