A petty thief, Valdivia, finds himself attracted to a swimming instructor at the local baths and goes to bed with her. He is used to failure in his life, but begins to have dreams of a golden sheep. Then he receives a mysterious phone call telling him to go and search for the sheep. He embarks on a quest into the bleak land of Patagonia, a quest with no reason but a need to find that which has been lost in his life.
