Two tourists find the "Book of Herschel" hidden in the desert. Herschel is the son of a sculptor who specializes in images of the gods. When he goes up to the top of Mount Sinai one day he hears God's instructions to Moses and writes them down himself. He then tries to lead his people out of Egypt, but by the time he makes the acquaintance of the Pharaoh, Moses has already come and gone.
