In 1988, photojournalist Alberto Venzago crosses West Africa on an older Vespa which breaks down in the town of Ouidah, right in front of a Voodoo cloister. It is Manhounon who offers to help Alberto and who just so happens to be one of the most powerful Voodoo priests in Africa. Alberto also discovers that Manhounon has struggles of his own as his connection to the Other World advises him he must swiftly find his own successor and his own sons aren't up to the task.
