Film.com's FREE movie of the week is "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror." This 1922 classic of cinema based on Bram Stoker's "Dracula" (but with names changed) directed by F.W. Murnau and starring Max Schrek in one of films most famous and frightening make-up jobs.
Insistently utopian in both vision and practice, Peter Watkins is among the most marginalized of major contemporary filmmakers. Director Geoff Bowie travelled to Paris to follow the production of Watkins's most recent work, "La Commune (Paris, 1871)" (France/2001), a revolutionary epic made with the same spirit of resistance that drove the rebellious Communards of 1871. The result is at once a revelatory companion to "La Commune", a lucid observation of Watkins's singular production methods and a thoughtful polemic on the challenges facing filmmakers who strive to work beyond mainstream media.
