A small town girl named Amiran is abducted by the man her father helped put in jail and sold in the bazaars of Lucknow. Later given the name Umrao, the young woman develops a variety of artistic talents, including poetry, and with her stunning beauty becomes the rage in Lucknow. But despite her fame, Umrao dreams of having a husband, a family and a home, and coming face to face with her former self.
