The best thing about the debut trailer for “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” is learning that there’s a “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.” Seriously, this thing totally snuck up on us. Be that as it may, this is a sweet surprise, as the original film was an unexpected treat. The first trailer for the sequel exudes the same charm and manic wit of the original, even though that film’s directors – Phil Lord and Chris Miller – aren’t back for round 2 (likely because they hit it big in the live-action world with “21 Jump Street,” and have their hands tied with that sequel).
If you remember from the first movie (and how could you forget that gloriously crazy thing?), young inventor Phil Lockwood (Bill Hader) created the FLDSMDFR, a device that turned water into various foods and led to a “Day After Tomorrow” kind of scenario involving a lot of spaghetti and meatballs instead of snow and CGI wolves. Now, Phil and his pals return to the no-man’s-land that was Swallow Falls to find that nature — or at least the FLDSMDFR — has “found a way,” to quote that lovable Chaos Theorist, Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum in “Jurassic Park”).
You’ve never known true fear until you’ve come face-to-face with a mighty Tacodile … Supreme.
