Joe Barrett was a US airman during World War II, where he became a hero. However, he also believes that his wife Trina died in a Japanese concentration camp. But when he returns to Tokyo, to the bar that he used to own, he discovers that Trina is not only alive, but is married and has a seven-year-old daughter. Barrett suspects the girl is really his, and this connection allows him to be blackmailed in an attempt to save his wife and child.
