Irish-American boxer Sean Thornton, recovering from the trauma of having accidentally killed a man in the ring, arrives in the Irish village where he was born. He falls in love with Mary Kate Danaher, sister of bullying squire, Red Will Danaher. However, Red Will won't consent to their marriage. In order to defeat Red Will and marry his beloved, Sean must come to terms with both his demons and Irish traditions.
