The Lone Ranger Rides Again

After a dizzying spell of are-we-or-aren’t-we moviemaking, Disney has decided once again to put The Lone Ranger back into production. Deadline reports that Tom Wilkinson will play some sort of villain in the film, which stars Johnny Depp and The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer.

The production was plagued with budgetary problems this year, causing Disney to shut down the Gore Verbinski-directed movie during preproduction in order to iron out financials. The original budget was around $260 million, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer was given the go-ahead only if he could get the budget down to about $215 million. A compromise has been reached and the film will go into production shortly.
