synopsis
The true story of Grace Elliott, a beautiful royalist Englishwoman living perilously in France during the Revolution, and her sometimes affectionate, sometimes tempestuous relationship with Philippe, Duke of Orleans, a cousin of King Louis XVI but nonetheless a supporter of revolutionary ideas. The Lady manages to persuade the Duke to rescue an outlaw, but fails to keep him from voting for the King's execution.

The Lady and the Duke, a striking tale of intrigue set during the French Revolution, stars Lucy Russell as a Scottish aristocrat who uses her wiles on Philippe, Duke of Orleans (Jean-Claude Dreyfus), to further her own political and sexual agenda. Old master Eric Rohmer, 82, uses new tricks in the form of painted backdrops inserted digitally to create a virtual reality. Rohmer goes Lucas - who could have guessed?
