A has-been actor has become prisoner to the bottle, but his stalwart wife stands by him and weathers his drunken bouts. When a young director, who idolized the actor in his heyday, offers him the chance of making a comeback on Broadway, he tries to keep the wife away, thinking she is the cause of all his drinking. When she vehemently denies this, they both realize they feel an attraction for each other.
