synopsis
Grizzled former professional baseball player Morris Buttermaker is bribed by a straitlaced lawyer to coach the Bears, a woefully inept youth baseball team. Buttermaker's got to find a way to drive this gang of 12 misfits to a championship against their hated rivals: the Yankees and their overbearing coach.

Billy Bob Thornton is the best weapon against cute that a kid baseball movie ever had. Like Bill Murray, Thornton is allergic to uplift. Even though this Bad News Bears redo is almost exactly like the 1976 original, watching Billy Bob Thornton play another grizzled drunkard, who teaches a bunch of smart-alecky kids his own particularly twisted game of baseball, is amusing enough.
