Let's Make Jenna Fischer A Really Big Movie Star!If we work hard to make The Promotion a box-office hit, we'll get to see The Office's Pam on the big screen more.

Need a summer project? Well, I’ve got one for you. It involves going to see a tiny little movie called The Promotion that you’ve probably heard very little about, and then getting everyone you know to see it, too. What is the point of this, you ask? It’s simple: we’re going to make Jenna Fischer a huge movie star. (While you’re at it, if you happen to know any Emmy voters, please put in a good word for her brilliant/hilarious/moving work as Pam on The Office. It’s about time this girl got a big shiny statuette for that performance!) I haven’t seen The Promotion yet. It opened last week in New York and L.A. and will hit the rest of the country on June 12, but mostly at smaller, art-house theaters. I haven’t even seen a single trailer for it playing anywhere, except for here on Film.com, but I’m totally psyched for it based on Jenna’s adorable Sean William Scott’s character, and she’s quite insistent in her blogs that he is incredibly sweet and un-Stifler-like both in this film and in real life. It’s blog moments like these that make Jenna one of the best celebrity MySpace friends you could ever ask for. She’s extremely forthcoming with anecdotes and personal photos from whatever set she’s working on, and you can’t help but share her giddiness when she gushes about selecting her red carpet dresses and meeting her own favorite celebs. She’s clearly remained down to earth as her Office fame has grown. She even occasionally answers reader questions and shares her swag. She’s been good to the fans that have made her a big TV star. Therefore, I think it’s only fair we repay her by helping make her a big movie star, too. TV shows don’t last forever, even really great ones like The Office. Let’s make sure Jenna doesn’t go away once the last aggravated sigh has been heaved at Dunder Mifflin. So far on screen, Jenna has strutted her stuff in sexy lingerie in Blades of Glory, and tried her best at singing only to have her voice dubbed over by a professional in the criminally underappreciated Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. The Promotion looks like it will give her a chance to bring the delicate balance of heart and deadpan humor she strikes so well on The Office to the big screen. But it’s still a supporting role in a small film that likely won’t be seen by many. I’m anxious to see her land that big breakthrough film role we know she’s capable of. If fembots like the Jessicas Biel and Alba can land lead roles in major motion pictures, why can’t an actress like Jenna who’s already proven her comedic and dramatic chops on an Emmy-winning TV series? Maybe she hasn’t done a lead role yet because she hasn’t been offered a good one. But if that’s the case, why isn’t she being offered the good ones? Bottom line: I’ll see Jenna Fischer in anything she does. But if we work hard to make The Promotion a hit, we just may get to see a lot more of her on the big screen. Most Popular Stories
