Five Reasons We Love Jim Sturgess
Columbia Pictures
Editor's Note: When we asked Amanda to write about Jim Sturgess we had no idea how passionate she was about the man. These five lovable factors were culled down from her original 17 part list which included, we kid you not, "I've been practicing my Mrs. Sturgess signature and it looks super duper!" While we don't think Amanda and Jim will be dating anytime soon you'd be sad if we didn't give you a little taste of what the amazing Jim Sturgess is all about. Enjoy. 1. Jim Sturgess can sing quite well, for the record. A stunning performance in Across the Universe won over fans of the Beatles despite initial concerns about the integrity of the project. Sturgess pulled off the complicated numbers with panache and real grace. His voice is lovely, unexpected and strangely subtle -- he added his own special sound. 2. He's good-looking in a way that doesn’t suggest the refined and overly-polished features of so many young stars these days. His face has a very expressive quality that doesn't run the risk of limiting him to any one role. With the rise of such "unconventionally attractive" male actors as John Krasinski, we've begun to form new ideas about what we're looking for in a leading man. No longer is it enough to be pretty; as in any good relationship, you have to be good looking, smart, and have plenty to offer. 3. Already having showcased his talents in song, dance and as a plethora of films, Sturgess is now the subject of gossip about the possibility of a Spiderman stage play -- with Sturgess in the lead role. Though he very nearly dismissed the rumors, it wouldn't be surprising if they turn out to be true in light of his commitment to his craft. Adding more stagework to a blossoming career is the hallmark of an actor eager to pursue excellence in his career; the fact that he is pushing himself in different directions and seeking to grow as an actor bodes well for his future. 4. He claims to still be an unknown in Britain, his homeland. That seems to be swiftly changing, especially given the recent release of The Other Boleyn Girl and his new film 21, which chronicles the rise and fall of MIT geniuses eager to make their fortunes at the gambling tables of Las Vegas. While he may be safe in Britain for a brief time, those days are soon to end in America. We love our men tall, dark, and talented. 5. He chooses a good variety of films, not sticking to any one genre. In the last year or so, he’s already got a sweeping musical, a gorgeous period piece and a brainy action film under his belt. It would appear as if Sturgess is attempting to build a career, rather than taking any and all offers thrown at him. It is rare to encounter such commitment to craft among the young, and slowly he’s joining the ranks of Joseph Gordin Levitt and Shia LeBouef. Only time will tell how these young men parlay their new found fame, but Sturgess has the looks, voice, and talent to go far. Comments
