It's time to break down Step Up 2 The Streets! Please enjoy my breakdown of the film that grossed $144 million worldwide. I think this one is destined to become a cult classic.

The Movie
I think at this point I'm willing to give the film a B, especially on DVD. I gave it a positive-feeling C+ back in February, but after watching it again at home I'm even more impressed with the energy and young director John Chu. The film holds up well because it makes the dancing the priority. It never delves into melodrama to the point it can't recover -- and they clearly did a lot of hard work on the innovation front. Chu's scenes transition efficiently and effectively, and Briana Evigan captivates as Andie. This is a fun disc for a rainy weekend afternoon.

The Special Features
Director John Chu walks you through the deleted scenes with an intro as to why they were left out. His choices seem solid to me, but it's an interesting exercise. A twelve-minute "making of" appears on the disc as well. It's enlightening to see the sheer physicality that went into making the film. Music videos from Missy Elliot, Akon, and more are also included. A look at the "410" crew and a practical joke from lead Robert Hoffman round out the offerings.

The Easter Eggs
On the Blu-ray disc, if you're on the special features menu and keep scrolling down, a pair of yellow footprints will appear. Click that and you'll get to see some post-wrap dancing. Also in the special features, if you scroll to the "making of" feature and push right you'll see another set of yellow footprints to an Easter Egg where Cassie and Adam kiss. Speaking of, I want to see Adam Sevani in more movies. The kid is good.

Blu-ray vs. Traditional
The ending scene is the real reason to purchase this on Blu-ray if you own the player. It's raining, the movements are quick, and that extra definition adds a lot. The interfaces are also much crisper on Blu-ray, as you'd expect, once you get through a five-second loading time.

Overall Rating
Give this one at least a whirl on rental. You could do much worse. Trust me, I have.
