Nora is fourteen and lives with her parents in a quiet Berlin suburb. A romantic introvert, she spends her days wrapped up in her own dream world. Meanwhile, her parents, Anette and Uwe, are busy trying to deal with reality. Both wrestle with their unrealized dreams as well as troubles caused by financial difficulties. When Thomas, a former lover of Anette’s, and his family move in next door, the fragile foundations of Nora’s family are rocked. Thomas impresses everyone, especially Nora, with his natural charm and his larger-than-life stories. He represents everything her father lacks, a strength and worldliness. Uwe feels extremely threatened by his arrival. Things come to a head between Uwe and Thomas at a dinner party. The veneer of family bliss begins to fracture, and Nora begins to understand that maybe her wistful desires will never become a reality.
