Soldier (1998)

In a distant galaxy, a "Shane"-type hero is forced to defend a band of settlers on a remote planet from a squadron of scientifically engineered warriors led by his personal nemesis. Todd has been trained from birth to be a crack soldier, but when a new generation of genetically engineered fighters replaces him, he is unceremoniously dumped as trash on a garbage planet. There he is nursed to health by ragtag settlers, only to discover that his erstwhile superiors plan to try out their new soldiers by annihilating the planet. Todd gets one more chance to prove his worth - by saving his own life and his new home.
