synopsis
The nocturnal adventures of an author and English professor visiting the University of Santiago in Spain. At 60, Laurence is confronting aging and death, and coming to terms with a body he no longer trusts. A colleague suggests he seek comfort at a distant, enigmatic house of pleasure, where young women are put to sleep with drugs so that old men can sleep with them to find inspiration. After visiting the house, Laurence finds himself obsessed with the young women whose services he hires. The house, or secret club, is governed by strict rules. Discretion is key, yet Lawrence not only has difficulty coming to terms with himself as an old man, but also in following the etiquette of the house- he spends his nights there searching for inspiration and the drug which lets him sleep as soundly as the girls. Believing that doubts are the raw material of the artist, Laurence submerges himself into the waking sleep at the border of reality and fantasy.
