Set at the start of the Spanish Civil War in July 1936. As the Spaniards leave Portugal, with dictator Salazar on the brink of officially supporting Franco's fascists, an apolitical Portuguese engineering student, Jorge, finds his family and mostly Communist friends involved in a plot to help a pair of high-profile Spanish leftists return to their country.
