synopsis
In 1976, the maverick ABA is a fast-paced, wild and crazy basketball league that rivals the NBA and makes a name for itself with innovations like the three-point shot and slam dunk contest. Jackie Moon is a one-hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song "Love Me Sexy" to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon's franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible--win.

The only so-so Semi-Pro just proves Will Ferrell, although being one of the funnier people on the planet, definitely needs new material.

Story

Set in 1976, an arrogant doofus--who loves booze, partying and women--buys an underdog professional basketball team and basically runs it into the ground, until he is inspired to take his rag-tag team all the way to the NBA. Whether he gets naked and shows his flabby parts or not, Will Ferrell makes me laugh. And he does it in hit movies (Elf, Old School, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory), horrible movies (The Producers, Bewitched, Kicking and Screaming) and movies where directors edge him into something deeper (Woody Allen's Melinda and Melinda, Marc Forster's Stranger Than Fiction). Hell, Ferrell is funny when he just drops into a movie for a few scenes (Zoolander, Starsky and Hutch, Wedding Crashers)… Continued
