Two child laborers, young male Ravi and female Masha, toil away in a carpet factory in pre-Independence India. Ravi is the more ambitious and wise of the two, while Masha is gentle and naive. The children develop a bond they swear will last a lifetime until circumstances tear them apart. When Masha is forced to leave for the city, Ravi follows, several years later, fiercely determined to find her.
