‘Lincoln,’ ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Lead 2013 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations

The nominations for the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning and the early award season favorites continued to build momentum, with “Lincoln,” “Les Miserables” and “Silver Linings Playbook” all receiving multiple nominations.

Those three films were joined by “Argo” and surprise nominee “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” for the coveted Outstanding Performance by a Cast award. “The Master,” which was expected to earn a nod, was left off the list.

In the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category, presumed frontrunner Daniel Day-Lewis (“Lincoln”) was joined by Bradley Cooper (“The Silver Linings Playbook”), Hugh Jackman (“Les Miserables”), John Hawkes (“The Sessions”) and Denzel Washington (“Flight”).

Meanwhile, Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role looks to be a wide open race, with a field that includes Jennifer Lawrence (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Marion Cotillard (“Rust & Bone”) Helen Mirren (“Hitchcock”) and Naomi Watts (“The Impossible”).

In the supporting categories, Javier Bardem scored a surprise nomination for his turn as a Bond villain in “Skyfall;” he’ll be competing against Alan Arkin (“Argo”), Robert De Niro (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Philip Seymour Hoffman (“The Master”) and Tommy Lee Jones (“Lincoln”).

And while most pundits are already giving every major supporting actress award on Earth to Anne Hathaway for “Les Miserables,” she still has four other contenders to deal with: Sally Field (“Lincoln”), Helen Hunt (“The Sessions”), Nicole Kidman (“Paperboy”) and Maggie Smith (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”).

Some of the surprise snubs include Joaquin Phoenix for “The Master” for Best Actor and “Zero Dark Thirty” for Outstanding Performance by a Cast. Get the full list of nominations here.

The 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are set to air live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
