synopsis
In 18th-century Venice, Countess Cornelia is engaged to be married but is secretly pregnant. Sent to her parents' country home to give birth, Cornelia is placed in the care of peasant Rosa, who is also pregnant. The two women find companionship, but must struggle when they learn about the plans Cornelia's family has for her unborn child.
