Why Doesn't Kate Winslet Look Like Kate Winslet on the Revolutionary Road Poster?

Things have changed since Titanic. Where is our favorite redheaded British actress in the poster? All we see is a blond waif.

I'm a little upset right now. And a little bit confused, too. Here's why: the poster for Revolutionary Road has just come out. I was dying to see this poster, or any other images from the film, for that matter, because I'd been led to believe it marked the reunion of eternal Titanic lovers Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, two stars who have both grown into mighty fine actors since their voyage on that ill-fated ship. They've both grown so much since Titanic's release in 1997 that it most feels like we're about to see two great actors join forces for the first time.

But apparently, I was wrong. By the looks of this poster, we're not getting the big Leo-Kate reunion we were promised. I see Leo here, looking a little meatier now than he did in Titanic, but we've grown accustomed to seeing him that way by now. But who is this willowy blond nuzzling up against him? Surely that's not the same beautiful, porcelain-skinned redhead whose life he saved on that boat. It can't possibly be the same actress who's been criminally robbed a whopping five times at the Oscars (with the most painful loss being for her work as Clementine in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). There is no way that is Kate Winslet. Are you sure we're not looking at a picture of Mad Men's January Jones?

Luckily, the trailer restores my faith that Kate Winslet is indeed starring in Revolutionary Road. Her hair may be blond now, but her spirit is still as fiery red as her locks used to be. Winslet has the extraordinary talent of being able to portray intense vulnerability without ever making her characters seem weak or whiny. She acts out emotional pain better than anyone, and considering the fact that she's crying or yelling for pretty much this entire 2:16 trailer, it looks to me like Revolutionary Road is the perfect vehicle for her to show off that talent.

I can't wait to see Kate Winslet in this movie. But in the meantime, I still wish we could see her in the poster, too.
