Widow and filmmaker Sonneborn considers her own memories, and interviews other women in her position. One woman considered injuring her husband's hand to prevent him from going to Vietnam, while another tells of her Navajo husband's sympathy for the Vietnamese. The Vietnamese widows have even more harrowing tales to tell than the Americans: one woman describes hiding under corpses, while another was tortured.
