Although it never became the definitive document of Generation X, Reality Bites is a touchstone for anyone just out of college and stuck with more ideals than job prospects, not to mention a head full of bad-TV trivia. It would be nice to say Winona Ryder steals the movie, but she's merely an adorable presence; meanwhile, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo and first-time director Ben Stiller register as young people trying -- and not always succeeding -- to figure out what to do with their lives.
