By 1937, the Imperial Japanese Army had pushed far into mainland China and was massed outside the gates of its capitol. During the occupation of Nanking, the Japanese army allegedly raped, looted and committed numerous similar atrocities, including the execution of political prisoners and close to 300,000 wrongfully accused innocent civilians. Amongst the chaos, a Chinese mother and a daughter run into a handful of Westerners who remained in Nanking in a courageous attempt to stop the massacre and protect the innocent.
