Massimo is an unemployed medical student who has been recruited by health authorities to help uncover a scam. Posing as soccer player with a knee injury, he is admitted to a state hospital in Rome. There, he meets Luigi who is wheelchair-bound after a series of botched operations. However, Luigi, who may be faking his injuries, is in league with a pair of ward staffers to free hospital beds, for a charge, to patients on the waiting list.
