Reminiscent of an "Alice-in-Wonderland" type fable, the story follows Tereza on a journey across the Slovak countryside to Bratislava to find her mother. On the way, she encounters the station master of an abandoned train station, a truck driver who destroys his cargo of dresses after giving one to Tereza, an old lady buried up to her waist as a remedy for pain, and a wedding party, complete with youthful groom and a fat bride old enough to be his mother.
