synopsis
Fantasy collides with reality as Betty Sizemore, a waitress from Fair Oaks, Kansas hits the road in a "borrowed" 1997 Buick LeSabre to be reunited with the love of her life -- Dr. Ravell. The only problem is that Dr. Ravell is a primary character on the soap opera "A Reason to Live" and Betty, after witnessing the traumatic murder of her husband in a drug-deal gone bad, has convinced herself that she is Nurse Betty, the woman who jilted Ravell at the alter six years ago.

Nurse Betty skips out of the fall gate sounding like a sweet spin on The Wizard of Oz. There's Renne Zellweger, looking Judy Garland girlish in a blue-and-white-checked dress and red Keds. She's playing Betty Sizemore, a Kansas waitress who follows the yellow brick road to Hollywood to find Dr. David Ravell (Greg Kinnear), the Prince Charming of her dreams. Hold the oohs and ahs: John C. Richards and James Flamberg, whose script won a prize at Cannes, aren't into Kansas corn. Neither is Neil
Fantasy collides with reality when a soap-addicted housewife (Zellweger) witnesses her estranged husband's murder. Shocked out of reality and into a fantasy world, she sets out to L.A. to find the man of her dreams, dashing daytime-drama doctor David Ravell (Greg Kinnear). But she has no grasp that her ''ex-fiancé'' is simply an actor named George, and two determined hit men (Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock) are hot on her trail. Acting
