Film.com's FREE movie of the week is "Love the Hard Way." Oscar-winner Adrien Brody and Charlotte Ayanna star in this drama about a thief who falls for a curious, beautiful young woman. As their intimacy grows, a slick cop (Pam Greer) is closing in.
Set during 1975, the most difficult period of "The Troubles", story unfolds over a 24-hour period during a tense truce between the Protestant (Loyalists) and Catholic (IRA) militias in Belfast. Once childhood friends, Protestant paramilitarist Kenny and Catholic single father Liam are both caught up in the chaos that reigns after a Protestant pub is bombed; it is an act of terrorism considered barbaric even in this war-ravaged city. Leonard, representing the political, more rational wing of the Loyalists, negotiates a ceasefire with his IRA counterpart. But Kenny and his paramilitary unit, feeling betrayed, ignore Lenoard's call for peace and pursue revenge against their Catholic neighbors. Following a violent street clash, Kenny's men spot Liam making his way home; they abduct him and subject him to a harrowing interrogation as an alleged IRA member. So the endless cycle of blind hatred continues, in which loyalties are tested, families are divided and even murder is committed.
