Follows Aurelia's voyage, a sociology student who wants to do her thesis on Marie-Rose, a charismatic 68-year-old woman who built a family business from working with junk in the coastal town of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Aurelia's research consists of various encounters with the evasive Marie-Rose and her family, all of whom are more or less involved in the junk business, all of them under a tense calm.
