Ye-jun, a former activist, is on the fast track to upward mobility as a foreign exchange dealer. Ye-jun's friend from the military, Jae-mun, is a sincere young man with a high school degree and a wife who works as a hairstylist; they are preparing to emigrate to the U.S. While Jae-mun's wife is away on a business trip, Ye-jun accidentally drowns the couple's newborn baby that he is taking care of. Jae-mun covers for his best friend and goes to prison while Ye-jun looks after his wife.
