It isn't every day that someone freely adapts Shakespeare's Henry IV plays into a hallucinatory movie about male hustlers with a mostly gay clientele in Portland, Oregon. Gus Van Sant's lyrical depiction of young hustlers on the make remains an essential testament to the beauty and chops of the late River Phoenix, starring as quiffed narcoleptic Mike Waters, who takes up with slumming rich kid Scott Favor (Keanu Reeves). It's basically Mike and Scott's gay adventure, braised with Shakespeare references and time-lapse footage of scudding clouds. Superb bonus disc includes the featurette "Working With River."
