Mona is a small-town girl newly arrived in Manhattan who has a job as a research assistant at a magazine but who hopes of being a poet. Leonard washes dishes and dumpster-dives for objects to use in his artwork. They are next door neighbors in an East Village walkup; only catch is that the wall separating their apartments is paper thin. Mutual spying naturally occurs.
