Nia is the daughter of a black mother and white father, raised in a predominantly white yuppie suburb of Westchester. She quits her ad agency job over a campaign aimed at young blacks, and decided to write a book and figure out her racial identity. Nia meets various men, including black activist Lewis and white musician Joe, who help her understand her mixed-race identity and find her voice as a writer.
