Two men arrive in a small Spanish village in the 1930s. Fermin is a young doctor, and first to fall for local beauty Mariara. But she begins an affair with the less uptight Bertrand, a British surveyor. He is seemingly more romantic, but also less trustworthy, and when Mariara becomes pregnant, tragedy becomes inevitable.
