synopsis
A humorous story of what happens when the U.S. Government sends comedian Albert Brooks to India and Pakistan to find out what makes the over 300 million Muslims in the region laugh. Brooks, accompanied by two state department handlers and his trusted assistant, goes on a journey that takes him from a concert stage in New Delhi, to the Taj Mahal, to a secret location in the mountains of Pakistan. It's a comedic, insightful look at the some of the issues we are dealing with in a post-9/11 world.

Although not nearly as hilarious as some of his earlier films, diehard fans of Albert Brooks should still make a place for the amusing Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World in their Brooks film library.

There is so much sitcom slop at the multiplex this winter that Albert Brooks' Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World sounds damn near revolutionary. Sony Pictures passed on releasing it, leaving Warner Independent to pick up the challenge. Given the controversy, you'll be thrown at first by the surface blandness of this mock documentary. The laughs are decidedly hit-and-miss. But stick around, this satire knows how to bite you when you least expect it.
