synopsis
Set in the late '40s, the vivid retelling of the real life murder spree of Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez, and its connection to the tragic story of Detective Elmer C. Robinson who helped capture the killers--but lost his wife in the process. Ray and Martha travel around together posing as brother and sister, preying on lonely, vulnerable women. Their scam first milks them of their life savings and ends in the murders of several innocent women. A warped and dangerous duo, the lovers leave a bloody trail behind them. As their investigation progresses, Detective Robinson and his partner Charles Hilderbrandt become obsessed by the capture of the 'Lonely Hearts killers', as they are known in the press. The work invades Robinson's personal life and isolates him from those he loves--forcing him to choose between his family and his profession.
