Joao picks up Berta hitchhiking in Spain, and is unsettled to discover a gun in her bag. She reveals that she fears her husband is a murderer, and Joao agrees to take her to Lisbon. But Berta's family are following her, and before they can reach the Portugese capital, her husband catches up with them.
