A pretty teenage orphan runs off to become a waitress in a traveling carnival and becomes infatuated with a magician there, who won't return her love. Instead, she finds herself the object of deep affection by the carnival's puppeteer, an otherwise bitter man, who can only express his feelings through his puppets.
