Looking to leave their troubled past behind, Paul suggests to his younger brother Don that the two hop a plane and start a new life in sunny California. After a robbery intended to raise money for their trip goes awry, reality and fantasy collide as the brothers find themselves being pursued not only by the drug dealer they ripped off, but by a sufferer: one of the sphinx like creatures that roam the city, "trailing after people in trouble."
