synopsis
Documentary examining the Jewish Autonomous Region of the Soviet Union, founded by Stalin in 1934 as a homeland for Russia's Jews. An area of 14,000 square miles in eastern Siberia on the border with China, it still survives as a member state of the Russian Federation, though Jews now make up only 5 percent of the population.
