A German TV station's ratings are falling and program director Conrad Scheffer desperately needs a hit. He comes up with the idea of persuading Hannes Engel, a handsome radio star, to take over the late show. There are problems along the way: Hannes' partner Maria thinks he is selling out, there is an encumbent Late Show presenter to get rid of, and when the tabloids get hold of Hannes, they publish some sleazy stories.
