At the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, a young goatherder named Joaquin comes across a man who has been badly wounded by a gun shot to the side of the head. The man has been left for dead after an execution by a fascist execution squad. Joaquin hides the man, who wakes up an amnesiac - having forgotten his own identity. Much later, in 1980, Joaquin crosses the man's path again and discovers his true identity.
