Serena is a city girl who wants a man to protect her. She moves to the country to marry an old count, but that falls through. Next she meets a farmer who falls for her and begins robbing banks in an attempt to keep her in style. She marries him, but embarks on an affair with an artist who locks her in his house to use as his muse.
